Debre Libanos is one of the Ethiopia’s most reputed monastic enclaves. It was founded by Abune Tekle Haimanot who is believed to be the first monk to establish the monastery as early as 1260s. The monastery now consists of villages of male and female monks, the original monastery and the modern church with beautiful architecture.  The monastery is nowadays receiving a great many visitors every week either for religious purpose or as  tourist.
