Gur Waterfall is at a distance of 103km North of Finfinne (around Debre Libanos Monastery), there is fascinating scenery including an enjoyable view of the Jema river gorge. It is a hundred metres beyond the turn off to the monastery and after a five minutes’ walk to the right towards the gorge. Then a visitor can see the Portuguese bridge and a fascinating view of the countryside below.
Under this bridge there are phases of the seasonal turbulent cascades of Gur River appearing one below the other. It is a sort of seasonal waterfall which is so impressive when at high volume during the rainy season but comes to nearly drying up during the dry season. This site is being actively visited especially by those on the Northern tourist route.
