Officially  discovered by the team known as “Cave Ethiopia 95/96” in 1996. Echere is found in Daro Labu district of West Hararghe Zone at the distance of about 6km from nearest town Machara. Being the second biggest cave in Ethiopia, next to Sof Omar Cave, Echere is assumed to have total length of 3.38 km passages.

Other two small caves are known as “Goda Lencha” (Lion’s Cave), and Aynage were also discovered in the vicinity of Echere. They have complex network passage with two entrances. The Echere and Aynege caves systems thus call for visiting as good attraction for cave explorers and adventure tourism.
